STATEMENT by Senator Larry W. Smith on the Trans Mountain Pipeline Project Act

OTTAWA, ON – Senator Larry W. Smith, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate and Leader of the Senate Conservative Caucus, welcomes Senator Doug Black’s initiative on the Trans Mountain Pipeline Project Act.

Independent Alberta Senator Doug Black introduced a bill declaring the Trans Mountain Pipeline Project a general advantage to Canada. This legislation was seconded by Conservative Senator Richard Neufeld of British Columbia.

“I wish to recognize Senator Doug Black and Senator Richard Neufeld’s efforts to bring attention to the Trans Mountain Pipeline – their dedication to look out for the best interests of Canadians is remarkable.”

Last week, Conservative Senator David Tkachuk requested an emergency debate in the Senate on the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline System to encourage the Prime Minister to step up to the plate and set clear, actionable priorities in order to allow for the construction to begin on this very important project.

“The Senate of Canada is taking a lead on this important federal matter. We hope to see the Prime Minister follow suit and demonstrates leadership on this project.”
